A Sweet Christmas Challenge - Gingerbread House Competition 2023

This Christmas, Jan’s Heart NPC hosted a fun and creative Gingerbread House Competition, giving the children of our Umephi Children’s Homes a chance to showcase their decorating skills. Each of the 11 homes received a gingerbread house kit, and four homes took up the challenge, with the children and house mothers coming together to create their festive masterpieces.

We are proud to announce that Umephi House Villa le Themba, our special needs children’s home, won the competition! The public voted for their favourites on our Facebook page.  The house mother, Heleen Haasbroek, was awarded a tray filled with biltong, drywors, and sweets, while the staff received meat kindly gifted by Eldleen Butchery. The children’s prize was a sweet treat—5L of choc chip ice cream, 30 milky pie ice creams, and two boxes of Helga’s homemade cookies.

Additionally, every boy and girl at the participating homes received their own gingerbread man or girl to decorate, making the event even more personal and fun for each child.

The following homes also participated and each received two boxes of Helga’s homemade cookies: Villa Liberi, Charis, Thandi, and Deo Gratia.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to all who made this competition extra special. Special thanks go to:

Eldleen Butchery for the tray of biltong, drywors, sweets, and the meat for the staff.

Lana from Boksburg for the extra biscuits and candy canes.

.

Your kindness brought extra joy to the children, making this Christmas a truly memorable celebration filled with fun and creativity!
